Meet Louis Nel – Owner Operator of Antares Tours

The driving force behind Antares Tours and Safaris is Louis Nel, ably assisted by his wife Tina. Louis was born and raised in Northern Natal with a love of the outdoors.

After school he joined the South African Air Force, first as a Radio Operator and six years later as a Navigator. He flew maritime Shackleton aircraft, transport Hercules and Transalls, and was later involved in the training of navigators, where he taught the subjects navigation, survival and astronomy. On leaving the Air Force, he qualified as a tour guide and has been doing “the best job in the world” ever since – meeting exciting new people on every trip and sharing the wonders of South Africa with them.

Tina was born and raised on a farm near the diamond mining town of Kimberley in the Northern Cape Province. She moved to Cape Town after school and met Louis on a blind date via a colleague. They fell in love and were married three years later. The first born was a beautiful girl, Laetitia, with her brother Pierre following exactly two years later. Both are married. Laetitia and her tour operator husband Dirk live near Cape Town, while Pierre and his lovely wife Alix live in London.

The company has been in operation since 1994 and has been going from strength to strength by the determination and eagerness of the whole team.
