Table Mountain and Cape Town

We will happily tailor a city tour to your interests, however for first-time visitors to Cape Town, we recommend the following highlights:

Table Mountain

What better way could there possibly be to start the tour, than with a cableway ride to the top of Table Mountain, for the unbelievable spectacle of one of the world’s most beautiful cities lying between Table Bay and the foot of the mountain.

Mountain Wildlife

Take a stroll around the top and meet some of the inhabitants, the ever-present “Dassies” (rock hyrax). Their main purpose in life is to laze around on the rocks, soaking up as much sun as possible but still keeping a wary eye open for the Black Eagles who regard them as “lunch”.

Clifton

Clifton is an affluent suburb of Cape Town. This exclusive area is home to some of South Africa’s most expensive real estate, with cliff-side dwellings overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The area has 4 beaches which are named from 1st to 4th, and are separated by falls of granite boulders and have almost pure white sand. The four beaches of Clifton are well protected from the Cape’s notorious wind. A fifth beach, before First Beach, called Moses, appears and disappears as the sand is washed in and out with the seasons. The water, although always chilly (between 12–16 °C), is a favourite spot for surfing and body-boarding.

Malay Quarter (Bo-Kaap)

The picturesque Malay Quarter, (Bo-Kaap) is renowned for its well-kept mosques and brightly coloured houses. This area was first settled by liberated slaves more than 160 years ago.

Castle

The oldest building in South Africa – the Castle of Good Hope, fortification and seat of government for many years.

Company Gardens

Stroll through the Dutch East India Company Gardens, established by the Dutch to provide fresh vegetables at the Cape to combat the dreaded scurvy disease which caused many deaths on the long voyages between Europe and the spice islands of the East.

V&A Waterfront

Visit the vibrant Victoria and Alfred Waterfront with it’s scores of modern shops, restaurants, entertainers and craft shops. This is one of Cape Town’s favourite and interesting meeting places.
